 Zwiedzanie, informacjeNajwiększy zbiór intarsjowanych mebli toruńskich eksponowany jest w Ratuszu Staromiejskim na stałych wystawach: "Dawny Toruń. Historia i rzemiosło artystyczne 1233-1793" oraz w Sali Królewskiej. Ponadto w Ratuszu znajduje się wiele oryginalnych drzwi do poszczególnych sal I piętra pięknie zdobionych i wykonanych w tej technice.
Zwiedzać można w godzinach otwarcia Ratusza Staromiejskiego (tutaj).
Również doskonałej klasy intarsjowane drzwi wraz z takimi portalami znajdują się w staromiejskim kościele Ducha Św.
Wiele z dawnych intarsjowanych mebli toruńskich bezpowrotnie zostało utraconych (zniszczonych, spalonych, wywiezionych, sprzedanych) w czasie kataklizmów wojennych, jakie dotknęły Toruń przede wszystkim w okresie wojen napoleońskich (1806-1813) oraz później w ciągu XIX wieku, kiedy to z bogatych wnętrz toruńskich zachowały się ledwie okruchy śladów świadczących o świetnej przeszłości miasta.
Dlatego dziś w bardzo niewielu domach można jeszcze znaleźć m.in. dawne intarsje toruńskie, np. w kamienicy dawnej Apteki Królewskiej czy w dawnym Pałacu Meissnera.

Szczególny rozkwit intarsji nastąpił w Toruniu w wieku XVIII obejmując okres schyłkowego baroku i rokoka, chociaż technika ta była obecna w mieście od 2. poł. XVI w. Jednak od około 1730 r. stała się ona dominującą techniką zdobniczą w toruńskim stolarstwie artystycznym.
Stolarze toruńscy zdobili nią wówczas niemal wszystkie elementy wystroju wnętrz patrycjuszowskich (np. szafy sieniowe, szafki ścienne, szafy zegarowe, skrzynki, kasetki, boazerie, drzwi) oraz reprezentacyjnych - ratuszowych, kościelnych (np. portale, drzwi, boazerie). Powstałe takie wyposażenie, odznaczające się swoistymi cechami formalnymi, wyjątkową wartością artystyczną i mistrzowską techniką wykonania, zyskało miano mebli toruńskich. Intarsje toruńskie zarówno rozmiarami produkcji, jak i wyjątkowo wysokim poziomem artystycznym przewyższają znacznie wyroby innych ośrodków meblarskich w Polsce.
W treści tych dekoracji przeważają motywy figuralne. Są to bądź alegoryczne przedstawienia cnót w mieszczańskich wnętrzach, bądź symbole męstwa i szlachetności, bądź sceny biblijne we wnętrzach kościelnych.
Licznie produkowane w Toruniu barokowe i rokokowe meble zyskały dużą popularność, a toruńskie środowisko rzemieślnicze stało się szeroko znane. Ten „złoty” wiek meblarstwa toruńskiego bezpowrotnie zakończył się w 1793 r., tj . wraz z włączeniem miasta do II zaboru pruskiego.
